Painted Churches Tours

The painted churches are in the communities of Dubina, High Hill, Praha, and Ammannsville. They appear unassuming, but as you enter you will see the beauty inside. The interiors are painted in great detail with Catholic iconography and vibrant colors. The intricate designs were originally created by Czech and German settlers who came to frontier Texas in the 1840s. Many of today’s parishioners are descendants of those settlers.

The churches are active parishes and conduct services on Saturdays and Sundays. If there is sufficient interest, we will schedule a camera club group tour. Tours are scheduled from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday-Saturday, so our tour would be May 10 or 11. Or, tours may be scheduled by calling 979-743-4514.

Tour deposit is $50. Tour cost is determined by the number of people and number of churches visited.
