Old Fort Parker Outing: Sept. 16, 2023

Find interesting images in the frontier-era buildings and displays at Old Fort Parker Historic Site located near Groesbeck, a 2-hour drive from Fort Worth.

Camera club member John Nixon will be at the site about 10 a.m. to explore and photograph the historic park. If possible, participants can get together for a late lunch in Groesbeck.

Settlers first came to the area in the 1830s. Settlers clashed with Native Americans, who took over the fort and captured Cynthia Ann Parker, the most famous captive in frontier history. The story of her life with the Comanches is the subject of numerous historical books and papers, and the classic western movie “The Searchers,” featuring John Wayne.
