You Be the Judge Program: May 4, 2023

  • You Be The Judge, presented by Jeff Grimm
  • Above, Light at the End of the Tunnel, a 2022 Competition entry by Janice Goetz

Award-winning photography instructor Jeff Grimm will discuss how images are judged.

Jeff’s presentation will be an interactive discussion with club members. He will present groups of images for club members to view and then vote for those they like best. This program is designed to stimulate conversation and thoughts about what is pleasing to the eye. The program also will help us understand how judges view and score images.

Carolyn Bobo will begin the program with a brief overview of the benefits of competition. Carolyn, who manages the club website, enters an image every month and says she always learns something from a judge’s feedback.

Jeff regularly judges camera club and photography contests in Texas and around the country. He taught photography at Trinity High School in Euless, his alma mater, for 35 years.

His students won the state photography championship five times, despite a zero dollar budget, and almost 7,000 individual and school awards, including several top-10 Best of College awards beating most of the nation’s best college and university photo programs.

Jeff received Star of Texas awards for outstanding contributions to photo education from the Association of Texas Photography Instructors.
